In 2021, the Missouri Department of Conservation noticed an increase of native bees. Over 1,000 bee samples were examined across the state between the states of June and September. Experts have concluded that this increase is because of an increase of native plants, including crape myrtle, bee balm, and hostas. Moreover, 4 half-black bumble bees, a species that had previously thought to be extinct, were found during this observational period. This increased trend has continued since 2021, due to the work of the conservationist organizations in Missouri.
